AIT-3 is a High capacity, high performance Sony AIT tape drive that delivers up to 100GB native in a compact, 8mm data cartridge.
High reliability Sony AIT tape drives incorporate a redesigned head geometry, reducing head/tape pressure and delivering up to 50,000 hours of head life and an industry leading MTBF rating of 400,000 POH (100% duty cycle). Compact form factor AIT drives offer high capacity in an extremely compact 3.5-inch form factor. With a compact size a fraction of the size of other high capacity tape drive formats, AIT drives are easy to integrate into desktop workstations, servers, and automated tape libraries.

(2.6:1) in a compact, 3.5" half-height form-factor.
- Sustained data trasfer rate of 12 MB/s native and 32.2 MB/s compressed (assuming 2.6:1) provides high performance for
today’s most demanding environments – backup to 43.2 GB/hour native or 112 GB/hour compressed (assuming 2.6:1).
- Extremely durable Advanced Metal Evaporated (AME) media – provides an extraordinarily reliable and virtually
contamination-free environment reducing the need for periodic cleaning.
- Sophisticated data access capability with Remote Memory-In-Cassette (R-MIC), a 64-kbit memory chip embedded into
the data cartridge – provides high speed file location and file access.
- Super Head Cleaner™ mechanism – provides an automated cleaning solution, increasing head life and reducing the need
for periodic cleaning.
- Helical scan recording writes the tape in one pass with a slow tape speed – reduces wear-and-tear on the tape media and
drive, increasing reliability and head life.
- Backward read and write compatible with AIT-1 and AIT-2 media – offers flexibility and convenience, and provides
investment protection.
