The Tandberg 840LTO is designed for integration into servers, desktop enclosures, autoloaders and scalable automated tape libraries. It offers up to twice the capacity and more than double the performance of the preceding Ultrium 2 generation of drives.

The third-generation LTO, the Tandberg 840LTO is designed to help meet the storage challenges faced by IT organizations today. First, there is the enormous growth in data, fueled by business continuity, regulatory compliance and information lifecycle management initiatives. Then, there are initiatives to improve IT operations, such as infrastructure simplification, improved administrative productivity and more reliable, cost-effective data protection.
Enhancements in third-generation drives
The Tandberg 840LTO introduces new features that can help increase throughput, capacity and reliability over previous generation LTO drives— while also helping to protect critical data: A new 16-channel head design increases drive performance. Digital Speed Matching (DSM) is designed to help improve throughput in environments where the host data rate is less than optimal; reduction of the overall power consumption from that of previous generation LTO drives. A redesigned head actuator provides improved read head tracking capability and performance. Enhanced power management results in reduced heat dissipation and greater operational efficiency than that of previous generation LTO drives.
